Custom Machine Design & Build — Edmonton, AB
When off-the-shelf equipment doesn’t fit your process, BP Automation engineers a solution from the ground up. We design, build, program, and commission custom automation equipment for industrial manufacturers across Western Canada.
Start Your Machine ProjectOur Custom Machine Design Process
1. Requirements & Feasibility
We start by understanding your process requirements, throughput targets, space constraints, and budget. Our engineers evaluate feasibility and identify the most practical automation approach for your specific application.
2. Mechanical Design & Engineering
Using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, our mechanical engineers develop detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings. We design for your environment — wash-down, explosive atmospheres, extreme temperatures, heavy loads.
3. Electrical & Controls Design
Concurrent with mechanical design, our controls engineers develop the electrical schematics, PLC architecture, panel layout, and HMI design. Everything is engineered in-house and built to CSA/UL standards.
4. Fabrication & Assembly
We fabricate structural components in our Edmonton shop using CNC machining, welding, and precision cutting. Mechanical and electrical assembly is done in-house for full quality control.
5. Programming & Factory Acceptance Test
Once assembled, our PLC programmers develop and test all machine logic. We run a full Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at our facility before shipping, so site commissioning is fast and clean.
6. Installation & Site Commissioning
Our team installs and commissions the machine at your facility, trains your operators, and provides full documentation — electrical drawings, O&M manuals, and spare parts lists.

Custom Machine Design FAQs
What is custom machine design and build?
Custom machine design and build is the process of engineering equipment around a specific production problem, part, workflow, safety requirement, or throughput target instead of using a standard off-the-shelf machine.
When should a manufacturer consider a custom machine?
A custom machine is worth considering when manual work is limiting output, existing equipment cannot meet quality or safety requirements, or standard machinery does not fit the part, process, space, or production goal.
Can BP Automation handle both engineering and fabrication?
Yes. BP Automation supports custom machine projects from requirements and feasibility through mechanical design, electrical controls, fabrication, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning.
Where does BP Automation build custom machines?
BP Automation is based in Edmonton, Alberta and builds custom industrial machines for manufacturers and industrial companies across Alberta and Western Canada.
